Sie sind Bestandteile von Zellen und Hormonen und gelten als hochwertiger Energie-Lieferant. Man unterscheidet dabei je nach Aufbau dieser Fettsäuren die Typen Omega-3, Omega-6 und Omega-9.

Die in Omega-3 enthaltenen Substanzen DHA und EPA haben einen Effekt auf unsere Sehkraft, unser Herz und unser Gehirn.

Omega-6-Fettsäuren sind lebensnotwendig. Sie müssen über die Nahrung aufgenommen werden und spielen eine Rolle für Knochen, Haut und Haare sowie die Regulation unserer Energie-Produktion.

Omega-9 enthält die wichtige Ölsäure, die den Cholesterinspiegel beeinflussen kann.
